Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Product Owner serves the product organization as a key liaison to the external customers, and internal business and technical stakeholders responsible for identifying and defining potential product enhancements, generating product requirements and specifications, and managing the release process. The role must also support all aspects of product development life cycle management while ensuring effective integration and coordination with Development, IT, and other business functions of the organization. The Product Owner role is integral to the development and implementation of product roadmap as well as establishing and maintaining a healthy backlog for products they own.

  1. Foster organizational maturity as leader on the Product Team, demonstrating an ability to operate efficiently and effectively, while making and empowering others to make ROI-based decisions that maximize tactical and strategic business outcomes.
    1. Collaborate with Product and Development Teams ensuring that portfolio project work is well defined, contributes to healthy backlog, and is completed on time, within budget, and meets stated business outcomes.
    2. Ensure product intake process is well managed, adhering to service level targets and facilitating effective product governance communications to key stakeholders.
    3. Promote the design and implementation of repeatable processes and procedures engineered upon well-defined principles and frameworks for autonomous decision making.
    4. Support resource development through coaching and mentoring associates, fostering a learning environment that incorporates feedback mechanisms for continuous improvement of operations and building a professional workforce.
  2. Collaborate with product management, development, and business customers (internal and external) to understand planned enhancements, systems modifications, or specifications for new systems.
    1. Conduct business process analyses, needs assessments, technology infrastructure evaluations, and/or preliminary cost/benefits analyses to align information technology solutions with product initiatives.
    2. Collaborate with customers on requirements by studying business functions; gathering information; evaluating output requirements and formats.
    3. Promote the integration of a consultative ‘Voice-of-the-Customer’ approach with the elicitation of functional requirements as well as with the review and feedback mechanisms for conceptual designs.
    4. Analyze product management goals, business, and end-user needs, documenting requirements and making recommendations for system logic, enhancements, server capacity planning, or flow, as necessary.
  3. Promote the effective integration of Product (PDLC) and Software Development Life Cycles (SDLC), serving as an engine for innovation achieved through cohesive, comprehensive, and well-orchestrated planning and execution on product delivery and release readiness.
    1. Execute and refine a product intake process so that it is well managed, adheres to service level targets and facilitates effective product governance and timely communications to key stakeholders.
    2. Collaborate with the Product Team and Development on the planning, creation, maintenance, and communication of a release plans designed to be reliable yet flexible while aligning to the objectives and priorities outlined in product roadmap.
    3. Maintain a strong sense of ownership of portfolio project work through effective project management of work products within both PDLC and SDLC phases.
    4. Support the definition, refinement, and execution of the product roadmap, business cases, decisioning criteria, and other product governance processes, working in close consultation with business stakeholders, product management peers, and Director of Product Management.
  4. Deliver Portfolio projects that are completed on time, within budget, and meet stated business outcomes.
    1. Leads activities and work with key product stakeholders to:
      1. Identify project work requiring development
      2. Establish priorities and timelines, and define scope
      3. Identify organization and key development partners to set expectations on prototypes and product definition.
    2. Gather and document business and technical requirements by performing industry methods such as use cases, gap analysis, usability labs, focus groups, and demos.
    3. Apply acquired skills and knowledge to address and clarify business end user or technical requirements.
    4. Collaborates with Product and Development Teams to ensure Product Portfolio work is properly defined.
      1. Conducts follow-up project scope meetings with product team, internal business and technical stakeholders, and customers to evaluate comprehensive solution scope and participates in evaluating design options.
      2. Partners with Iteration Manager to ensure High-Level Planning estimates are completed and presented to Product and Executive Leadership.
      3. Participates in Development pointing and daily stand-up meetings.
      4. Partners with Iteration Manager on Iteration and Release planning.
      5. Ensures all work is properly prioritized and defined.
    5. Provide project support which may include identifying and prioritizing tasks, estimating hours, project quotes, change control processes, labs, focus groups, meetings, resolving problems, reporting, user acceptance testing, production release validation, etc.
    6. Collaborate on the formulation and timely execution of reporting on product development metrics and other organizational KPI’s.
  5. Champion and nurture operational and market readiness for new product and release deployments through collaborative cross-functional partnerships.
    1. Build and foster close relationships with stakeholders across the business and all internal partners that contribute to the operational readiness of product releases and client organizations.
    2. Promote shared understanding across the organization
    3. Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement that extends beyond the product management and development teams to create streamlined and scalable business processes.
    4. Collaborate with business stakeholders, departmental and executive leadership, account management, and customer resources as appropriate to define strategies, objectives, success criteria, core processes, internal and external communications, and comprehensive inventory of supporting activities that are designed and sequenced for optimal product launch and increased customer adoption.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Health Sciences, or Business related discipline required.
  • Minimum of five years experience in a systems analyst, software development, or product management role; including planning and managing medium to large-size projects of medium to high complexity including deliverable development, timelines, issues and risk assessment.
  • Minimum of two years experience with revenue cycle or clinical application implementation, healthcare information technology, or consulting.
  • Product development experience with agile software development
  • Successfully able to follow Federal standards with HIPAA regulations involving PHI and PII.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Business, Clinical Informatics, Data Analytics, Technology Management, or Computer Science
  • Successfully able to follow standards with HIPAA regulations involving PHI and HITECH
  • Working knowledge of hospital and/or physician revenue cycles, specifically as they relate to functions performed within a traditional medical provider business office
  • Basic knowledge of various clinical departments and clinical datasets
  • Basic knowledge of ERP application data (i.e., HR/Payroll, Accounts Payable, General Ledger) and how it is used within operations
  • Experience with HL7, HL7 FHIR, healthcare interoperability

  • PC proficiency and knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Outlook Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, etc.).

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work. This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are typically Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and must work 40 hours each week to maintain full-time status. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel. Incumbent is required to travel on a regular basis to meet sales and client relationship expectations.

Work Environment. Employees may work from our corporate headquarters or work from home. Employees may at times be required to travel to headquarters for meetings or company events. Remote workers will be provided with a company laptop and are responsible for maintaining access to highspeed internet.

Physical Demands. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Position is primarily stationary with the need to stand or sit 80% of the workday. Manual dexterity: Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.

Frequently must analyze, memorize, problem solve, read, and perform simple to complex math. May frequently move computer equipment (laptop computer) weighing less than 10 lbs.

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 40 pounds.
