About the Role

The Software Development Intern will assist with Intelligent Automation (RPA and AI) initiatives that support Sound’s information systems. This role provides hands‑on experience with applied automation, workflow optimization, and Agile delivery, with exposure to building, validating, and improving solutions used by internal teams.

The Details: This is a full-time remote opportunity. 10-week internship that will run from June 1st through August 7th, 2026.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with team members across engineering, product, and operations
  • Participate in the team’s Agile development process, including daily standups, sprint planning, and retrospectives
  • Support automations, such as task routing, data validation, summarization, classification, or notification workflows
  • Assist with configuring, testing, and refining rule‑based and AI‑assisted automations integrated into existing systems
  • Help define automation inputs, prompts, decision logic, and expected outputs under guidance
  • Evaluate automation results for accuracy, consistency, and usefulness; document findings and improvement ideas
  • Assist with maintaining documentation related to automation workflows and usage guidelines

Nice-to-have AI & Automation Skills

  • Introductory understanding of AI concepts (e.g., models, prompts, inputs/outputs)
  • Interest in AI-assisted automation and intelligent workflow design
  • Exposure to low-code/no-code tools, scripting, or automation platforms
  • Familiarity with concepts such as summarization, classification, extraction, or decision support
  • Ability to think critically about automation quality, edge cases, and failure scenarios
  • Awareness of responsible AI practices, including data privacy and appropriate use
  • Curiosity, experimentation mindset, and willingness to iterate based on feedback

Education and Experience

  • Previous Internship or work experience in a professional IT or IS environment preferred
  • Relevant coursework specifically focused on duties outlined in this position preferred
  • Must be currently enrolled, or recently graduated from an accredited school, focusing on a relevant area of study
  • Preferred area of study: Computer Science or Computer Engineering
  • Other areas of study for consideration: Math and Physics
  • Senior-level students preferred

Pay Range

  • $17-$22 per hour. Exact pay will be determined based on candidate experience, geographical location, and size/complexity of the program being supported.
