About the Sr. DataOps Engineer
Upperline Health is looking for a Senior DataOps Engineer responsible for implementing, operating, and continuously improving the organization’s data ingestion and orchestration systems. This role focuses on reliability, observability, and safe change management across data pipelines, operating under the architecture defined by the Platform & DataOps Lead. The ideal candidate brings strong operational ownership, a bias toward automation, and a DataOps mindset that emphasizes small, iterative improvements and reduced manual intervention.

What You’ll Do

• Implement data connectors and ingestion jobs according to the established ingestion framework.
• Build, maintain, and improve CI/CD pipelines, including environment promotion flows (development, staging, production).
• Own the operational lifecycle of ingestion systems, including on-call participation, alert tuning, incident response, and follow up.
• Create, maintain, and improve runbooks and operational documentation for ingestion pipelines.
• Implement data quality checks at ingestion boundaries as defined by the Platform & DataOps Lead.
• Develop and maintain monitoring and alerting dashboards to ensure pipeline health and data freshness.
• Shared Responsibilities (Cross Team Collaboration)
• Partner with Data Engineering on backfills, schema evolution, and downstream data quality assertions.
• Partner with Application Engineering on shared deployment tooling, secrets management, and environment configuration.
• Process and Standards
• Use Git with pull requests, protected branches, required reviews, and automated checks.
• Build small, modular, and iterative components; avoid monolithic frameworks in favor of faster feedback and safer change.
• Enforce DataOps best practices that improve cycle time, reliability, and operational clarity.

Qualifications of the Sr. DataOps Engineer

• Strong experience building and operating production data ingestion pipelines.
• Hands‑on experience with CI/CD pipelines and environment promotion workflows.
• Experience with monitoring, alerting, and incident management for data systems.
• Familiarity with data quality concepts and implementing checks at ingestion time.
• Strong understanding of Git‑based development workflows and code review practices.
• Demonstrated ownership mindset with comfort being accountable for production systems.
• Ability to work effectively across Data Engineering, Platform, and Application Engineering teams.
• Strong written communication skills, especially for operational documentation and runbooks.
• Pragmatic problem‑solver with a bias toward automation and long‑term reliability.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.
• Senior‑level experience in DataOps, Platform Engineering, Data Engineering, or a closely related role.
