Nashville based candidates are highly preferred. This position requires travel to Nashville and/or various markets across the U.S. once a month.

About the Business Operations and Strategy Associate Role
Upperline is seeking a highly motivated Business Operations & Strategy Associate to join our new Business Operations and Strategy team. The right candidate is a strong executor and emerging strategist, with a core foundation in project management and a drive to grow into broader strategic responsibilities over time. You’re the kind of person who gets energy from ambiguity, moves quickly without sacrificing judgment, and can context-switch between tactical execution and big-picture thinking. You’re comfortable navigating unstructured problems and have a bias toward action, even when the path isn’t fully mapped. The Operations & Strategy Associate will be an important contributor to driving Upperline’s strategic vision. You will work closely with and in support of senior team members to plan, manage, and execute key initiatives, building toward the skills and autonomy of a future team leader at an innovative growth stage healthcare company transforming specialty healthcare towards value-based care.

What you'll do:

  • Support the Business Operations & Strategy team on strategic planning and prioritizing key initiatives and areas of focus, with exposure to senior leadership.
  • Partner with leaders across the organization to execute strategic initiatives, performance improvement, and other key workstreams.
  • Oversee the development of nuanced models and independently shape narratives that yield compelling insights, offering recommendations crucial for executive decision-making.
  • Proactively recognize and address the broader organizational implications of insights, presenting a strategic perspective along with goals and proposed outcomes.
  • Support and participate in meetings and workshops, including preparation of materials, and helping to identify concrete outcomes and next steps.
  • Implement strategic recommendations by fostering collaboration across teams, setting expectations, and establishing targets for execution.
  • Break down complex problems into discrete tasks, help scope projects into a defined set of tasks, responsibilities, and timelines, and support project execution.
  • Lead root cause analysis, identifying different data sources and mining findings and insights using different analytic tools (e.g., SQL, Tableau, PowerPivot, Excel) and creating ad-hoc analyses.
  • Stitch together data from different sources to identify opportunities and recommendations to improve the business.
  • Organize strategic initiatives into actionable plans and communicate approach to leaders and teams.
  • Plan the work and work the plan - assign workstreams to team members and self that reflect skills and development needs while meeting company needs and timelines.
  • Demonstrates leadership and the ability to influence by initiating partnerships that promote organizational objectives and change.

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • A bachelor’s degree is required
  • 2+ years of experience in a management consulting firm, internal consulting, or operations at a growth stage company; management consulting firm experience preferred
  • Robust analytical skills and proven ability to be creative, resourceful, and relentless in solving complex problems with data and insights
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and model building, PowerPoint, and exposure to large language model tools
  • Exposure to stakeholder management, with demonstrated ability to manage tasks and timelines across multiple workstreams to meet targets
  • Ability to prioritize and take a practice approach to get the desired result
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate productively with a diverse group of cross-functional partners and build trust with leaders
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal, written, and presentation
  • Highly adaptable and can pivot on the fly
  • Strong bias towards action and takes responsibility for achieving outcomes
  • Highly organized and ability to build scalable processes
  • High standard for work product and ability to drive organization towards excellence
