About the APP Manager Role
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Manager is responsible for leading, managing, and developing a team of Advanced Practice Providers, including Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs). This role ensures high-quality, patient-centered care, operational efficiency, and compliance with regulatory requirements. The APP Manager collaborates with physicians, administrative leaders, and multidisciplinary teams to optimize clinical workflows, enhance team performance, and support professional development.
What you’ll do:
Leadership & Management
- Provide direct supervision, mentorship, and support to APPs, fostering professional growth and clinical excellence.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices to standardize APP roles across the organization.
- Conduct performance evaluations, set goals, and support career development initiatives for APPs.
- Act as a liaison between APPs and other clinical and administrative leaders to ensure seamless communication and collaboration.
Clinical Operations & Quality Improvement
- Oversee APP scheduling, ensuring adequate coverage to meet patient care demands while maintaining work-life balance for staff.
- Monitor and evaluate clinical performance metrics, implementing strategies to improve patient outcomes and operational efficiency.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, ensuring APPs adhere to best practices and evidence-based guidelines.
- Address clinical issues, concerns, and complaints, working proactively to resolve challenges.
Regulatory Compliance & Credentialing:
- Ensure APPs maintain proper licensing, certifications, and continuing education requirements.
- Monitor adherence to local, state, and federal regulations, as well as institutional policies and protocols.
- Assist in credentialing and privileging processes, ensuring timely onboarding and compliance with institutional standards.
Education & Professional Development:
- Support APPs in obtaining and maintaining specialty certifications relevant to their practice areas.
- Organize training programs, workshops, and ongoing education to enhance clinical skills and knowledge.
- Advocate for APPs within the organization, promoting professional development opportunities and career advancement.
Qualifications:
- Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing (MSN, DNP) or Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS, MHS, MMS).
- Active and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant license.
- Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience as an APP, with at least 2 years in a leadership or managerial role.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations, compliance, and best practices in APP management.
- Experience in performance improvement, clinical operations, and workforce planning.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in specialty area, e.g., primary care, acute care, surgery, etc.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems and data-driven decision-making.
- Certification in healthcare leadership or management (e.g., CMPE, FACHE).
