Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) to oversee Earned’s enterprise-wide compliance program, encompassing our Registered Investment Adviser (RIA) as well as non-RIA affiliates, including tax and insurance entities. This leader will shape and manage our compliance strategy during a period of significant growth and acquisition activity.
The ideal candidate brings deep RIA regulatory expertise, experience operating in a complex multi-entity environment, and the ability to partner cross-functionally across wealth, tax, insurance, and legal services. The CCO will be accountable for compliance management across all Earned entities, supported by internal compliance staff, external compliance partners, regulatory counsel, and other outside experts as needed.
This is a critical leadership role responsible for ensuring Earned’s compliance framework is robust, scalable, and aligned with the company’s mission and regulatory obligations.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Compliance Leadership
- Oversee compliance functions across the entire Earned enterprise, including the RIA and non-RIA affiliates (e.g., tax and insurance entities).
- Establish and maintain a unified compliance governance framework that ensures appropriate oversight, documentation, and accountability across all regulated and non-regulated business units.
- Work with internal compliance support, outside regulatory counsel, and third-party experts to implement and monitor compliance requirements across multiple entities and regulatory domains.
RIA Compliance Leadership
- Oversee all RIA compliance functions, policies, and procedures in alignment with SEC and state regulatory requirements.
- Maintain and enhance the RIA’s compliance program, ensuring ongoing readiness for regulatory examinations.
- Oversee ADV updates, Form CRS, marketing rule compliance, and advisor supervision requirements.
Governance & Risk Management
- Lead the design, testing, and execution of the firm’s annual compliance program review across all applicable entities.
- Monitor regulatory developments (SEC, IRS, state insurance, and other relevant regulators) and communicate changes to internal stakeholders.
- Develop and implement risk-based compliance controls and testing procedures across both RIA and non-RIA businesses.
Partner & Cross-Functional Coordination
- Coordinate closely with Earned’s outside counsel on regulatory and compliance matters across all business lines.
- Collaborate with teams across wealth management, tax, insurance, and legal to ensure compliance alignment across interdependent service lines.
- Work with internal leaders and operational teams to support compliance implementation and monitoring within newly acquired businesses and affiliates.
Acquisition & Integration
- Support diligence, onboarding, and integration processes for acquired firms from a compliance and supervisory standpoint across all entity types.
- Implement consistent compliance policies and procedures across a rapidly expanding, acquisitive organization, ensuring both RIA and non-RIA obligations are met.
Leadership & Team Development
- Provide guidance to existing compliance personnel and external compliance partners supporting both RIA and non-RIA entities.
- Build and develop a high-performing, multi-entity compliance function with systems and processes suited for scale.
- Ensure appropriate staffing, resourcing, and external support are in place to meet enterprise compliance obligations.
Key Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, Master’s degree preferred
- Law degree (JD) preferred but not required
- 10+ years of RIA compliance experience, ideally in a rapidly growing or acquisitive environment with multi-entity oversight
- Prior CCO or Deputy CCO experience strongly preferred
- Deep expertise in SEC regulations, the Advisers Act, marketing rules, supervision, and regulatory examinations
- Experience overseeing or coordinating compliance across adjacent service lines (e.g., tax, insurance, legal) strongly preferred
- Strong judgment, discretion, communication skills, and leadership presence
- Ability to work cross-functionally, influence senior stakeholders, and operate in a fast-paced environment
- Located in San Francisco or New York preferred; remote considered for exceptional candidates
